Homebuyer Education Workshops
Attend a free NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania homebuyer education workshop to learn everything from credit to closing. Classes are taught by certified instructors with presentations by respected real estate professionals, such as loan officers, real estate agents, insurance representatives, and others.

Workshops are regularly held at the NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center in the Uptown neighborhood of Pittsburgh and in communities throughout the region. These classes meet or exceed the minimum standards of Fannie Mae, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and Allegheny County/City of Pittsburgh Economic or Development Departments and Urban Redevelopment Authorities.

Budget & Credit Restoration
Meet with a NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania financial counselor to get one-on-one assistance on the path to stable homeownership! Counselors may help to establish a budget, repair credit and increase credit scores, or prepare mortgage-ready homebuyers to meet with a loan officer. Attendees learn to understand the credit system and how to take control of their finances and improve their credit. NeighborWorks does not offer debt consolidation, only crucial information and guidance on the path to homeownership.

NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania housing counselors provide Budget and Credit Restoration for free to all who are in need of assistance. Traditionally, attendees are first-time homebuyers, but NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania serves all who desire this service.

Loans
NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania provides low-interest loans for area residents who are unable to obtain traditional financing. The following types of loan products are currently offered:



To apply for a loan with NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania, download and complete the Personal Profile Application and the Supporting Document Checklist for the appopriate loan. Foreclosure Prevention
NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania housing counselors help homeowners avoid foreclosure by contacting key housing partners and applying for state and national programs.

Homeowners Classes
In 2009, NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania will begin holding semi-annual Homeowners’ Classes. These workshops will bring new homeowners together to share experiences and learn from each other as well as from guest speakers, such as contractors, landscapers, non-profit service providers, and insurance companies.


My Money, My Life
In partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and nine area financial institutions, NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania coordinates My Money, My Life, a youth financial fitness program. Through a series of classes covering topics such as setting financial goals, budgeting, and understanding credit, youth increase their financial knowledge and their ability to make educated financial decisions.

My Money, My Life series are held in ten locations per year around Allegheny County and are open to teens 16 to 19 years of age. All youth who graduate from the program are eligible for a fee-free savings account with an initial $100 deposit made by NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania.

Financial Education Consortium of Southwestern Pennsylvania
The mission of the Financial Education Consortium is to serve as a catalyst to promote financial literacy in southwestern Pennsylvania. Participation in the Consortium is free and voluntary, and members include academic institutions, financial institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania serves as the host for the Financial Education Consortium.

Each year, the Financial Education Consortium hosts the Financial Education Fair. This free event brings together over thirty financial education providers to inform the public about their services and teach seminars on personal finance topics, as well as provide 1-on-1 financial counseling and tax preparation.

The Consortium’s website,www.YouControlYourMoney.org, is a resource for partner agencies and the general public. Website visitors can learn about financial topics as well as area financial education providers and their upcoming programs and classes.
